Kisspeptin Modulation of Reproductive Function

نویسندگان

چکیده

Kisspeptin is a peptide expressed mainly in the infundibular nucleus of hypothalamus. plays crucial role regulation reproductive functions. It regarded as most important factor responsible for control hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis, onset puberty, and menstruation fertility. activity influences numerous processes such steroidogenesis, follicular maturation, ovulation, ovarian senescence. The identification kisspeptin receptor mutations that cause hypogonadotropic hypogonadism has initiated studies on puberty. Pathologies affecting neurons secreting play major development PCOS, functional hypothalamic amenorrhea, perimenopausal vasomotor symptoms. analogs (both agonists antagonists), therefore, may be beneficial therapy those afflicted with pathologies. aim this review to summarize influence physiology pathology system humans, well its potential use therapy.

Overview of the impact of kisspeptin on reproductive function.

Since 2003, kisspeptin and its receptor (KISS1R, also called GPR54) are recognized as major actors of the gonadotrope axis. Mutations of genes encoding the peptide or the receptor have been identified in patients with precocious puberty or hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. They are strong stimulators of GnRH neurons and are involved in various mechanisms regulating gonadotrope axis as puberty indu...

Regulation of the neuroendocrine reproductive axis by kisspeptin-GPR54 signaling.

The Kiss1 gene codes for a family of peptides that act as endogenous ligands for the G protein-coupled receptor GPR54. Spontaneous mutations or targeted deletions of GPR54 in man and mice produce hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and infertility. Centrally administered kisspeptins stimulate gonadotropin secretion by acting directly on GnRH neurons. Sex steroids regulate the expression of KiSS-1 mRN...

Comprehensive Review on Kisspeptin and Its Role in Reproductive Disorders

Kisspeptin has recently emerged as a key regulator of the mammalian reproductive axis. It is known that kisspeptin, acting centrally via the kisspeptin receptor, stimulates secretion of gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH). Loss of kisspeptin signaling causes hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism in humans and other mammals. Kisspeptin interacts with other neuropeptides such as neurokinin B and dyno...

Kisspeptin antagonist prevents RF9-induced reproductive changes in female rats.

The aim of this study was to determine the modulatory effects of peptide 234 (p234) (an antagonist of GPR54 receptors) on kisspeptin and RF9 (an RFamide-related peptide antagonist)-induced changes in reproductive functions and energy balance in female rats. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were weaned on postnatal day (pnd) 21. The animals were intracerebroventricularly cannulated under general anest...

The kisspeptin-GnRH pathway in human reproductive health and disease

BACKGROUND The discovery of kisspeptin as key central regulator of GnRH secretion has led to a new level of understanding of the neuroendocrine regulation of human reproduction. The related discovery of the kisspeptin-neurokinin B-dynorphin (KNDy) pathway in the last decade has further strengthened our understanding of the modulation of GnRH secretion by endocrine, metabolic and environmental i...
